Sarah has a wealth of experience as an Early Years teacher, leader and trainer. In 2009 she joined the Lewisham Early Years team as part of the successful Communication Language and Literacy Development programme. In this role she worked with schools and settings to improve the quality of early language and literacy teaching and learning in EYFS and Year 1 classes, as part of the Local Authority School Improvement Team.
In 2011 she joined a failing primary school and, as part of the Senior Leadership Team, contributed to successfully turning it around; the school is now oversubscribed, recently gaining an Outstanding OFSTED judgement. This challenging journey involved supporting a diverse staff group to regain a clear sense of purpose, confidence and enthusiasm for their work, whilst embracing change, developing expertise, and continually reflecting on their own provision and practice.
In September 2013 Sarah began work as an independent consultant, whilst continuing to teach in school. She is currently working as a Deputy Head teacher at an Outstanding Nursery School, contributing to CPD and outreach work to local schools and settings.
She is sensitive to the pressures that schools currently face. Her approach to working with children and adults is creative and enabling. She helps them to remain focused on their goals and to take pride in their achievements, while striving to continue on their own learning journeys. She helps practitioners to become aware of how central they are to children’s learning and wellbeing, as members of the school community, and how collaborative partnerships built within teams can share and celebrate expertise, and build resilience. She has expertise in helping leaders to use data to track impact of teaching in the EYFS. She is skilled at developing stimulating, communication-friendly environments, and offering a rich, creative curriculum to learners.
